Helen Nguyen never imagined she would one day earn her living as a Franchise Owner.

That was until she began reflecting on conversations she had enjoyed with older friends and family

“They are the golden age, the golden generation,” she says.

“I realised that at their stage of life they have so many experiences and are so wise and they’re more than happy to share that knowledge with others. When I was around them, I felt included and welcomed. It was through this connection that I was inspired to investigate ways that I could assist others.”

After a spell working in the residential aged care sector, Helen then turned her attention to educating others, spending more than a decade offering skills training to job-ready Support Workers about to sit their Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing).

When the opportunity arose to open a new office at the Southern end of the Goulburn Valley and join the Just Better Care team, she leapt at it.

The Seymour office is based in Whittlesea and Helen has wasted no time adopting a highly visible presence on the streets and engaging in many conversations promoting the Just Better Care brand.

While other operators exist in the town, they tend to focus on providing only one facet of in-home care, with Just Better Care the first full-service agency of its type to have a presence in Seymour, she says.

“I have noticed from my own observations that there are other operators servicing the local population, but they tend to only offer transport for example, or cleaning only. Those that know us know we operate differently and so that’s why there’s been so much support for us here.”

Helen says while it is still early days for the Seymour office, she would like to encourage any Support Workers considering a move to the Victorian town to get in touch.

The first destination of the Military Heritage Trail, Seymour is home to Australian Light Horse Memorial Park and Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Walk. It also has close ties with the old Victorian railway network.

But more important than the local attractions, argues Helen, is the old school values that people in Seymour still hold to.

“We are proud to offer our staff work that is close to their home. They don’t need to commute for hours like they would have to in other cities. The people in this neighbourhood are so warm and welcoming to newcomers and really watch out for each other. Were that not enough there is also a sense of pride that comes with contributing value to your local community that few other jobs can offer.”
