Rosario Navarro never imagined that within just a few years of landing on Australian soil from her native Philippines, she would be helping to create a piece of Just Better Care history.

As the new Managing Director of Just Better Care Northern Territory, based in Katherine, Rosario has helped the company fulfil a long-held dream of having a presence across all six states and two territories.

Both geographically and professionally it is a long way from the life Rosario led when growing up in Southeast Asia.

Rosario arrived in Australia in 2012, where her first job was as a Support Worker in the disability and aged care sector. After completing additional training, she found herself working as a Case Manager in the youth and housing industry but wished to transition back to aged care and disability as it was more closely aligned to the work she had done back “home” where she was a registered nurse.

In 2020 she realised her dream of becoming a Program Manager in the sector and in January this year found just the opportunity she had been waiting for when she was asked to join Just Better Care as its Northern Territory Managing Director.

“I knew I wanted to do more and so I started to do some research on opening up a business. Just Better Care was a perfect fit for me and I for them.”

While it’s still early days for the Just Better Care NT office, Rosario says her immediate focus is on ensuring she is servicing the Katherine area which has a population of around 10,000, and its surrounding suburbs.

Ideally Rosario also hopes to open a second NT office in Darwin in the not-too-distant future, owing largely to the sheer population size of the NT capital, as well as the increasing demand for support service providers in that city.

The Northern Territory does not have many care providers capable of matching the high standards offered by Just Better Care so Rosario believes there is ample room for the NT operation to expand and grow.

The office currently has four staff but is looking to employ many more across all areas of the business, she says.

“At the moment I don’t have any administration staff so in terms of responsibilities, I am wearing all the hats,” Rosario says.

“I’m doing payroll and alongside my Registered Nurse I am completing assessments for all of our customers. I also take responsibility for ensuring that all staff needs are met, whether it’s providing them with PPE or looking after their wellbeing.”

Rosario says being located just 320 kilometres southeast of Darwin, Katherine is an attractive proposition for Support Workers and others in the care sector looking to work in the Northern Territory.

Boasting numerous unique geological formations and dramatic terrain, Katherine is the perfect location for those who enjoy surrounding themselves with nature during their time off. It enjoys a temperate climate and is also an easy drive to some of the territory’s most sought-after tourist attractions.

“We believe the people of the Northern Territory deserve the un-equalled level of service that our office and the broader Just Better Care team provides. We are very much looking forward to welcoming more staff members and introducing more locals to our exceptional offering.”  said Rosario
