We talk to Kerri, a Just Better Care Hobart customer and a military veteran. Kerri served as a Naval Police Officer in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) as part of the Joint Military Police Unit (JMPU) for 19 years

Kerri was offered the My JBC App around four months ago to complement her support services with Just Better Care Hobart. She receives support services in her home six days a week from her local Just Better Care office, including one day a week when she heads out with her Support Worker to the local shopping centre.

How did you find out about Just Better Care?

“My support is coordinated through the Department of Veteran Affairs, and my rehabilitation coordinator recommended me to Just Better Care Hobart when I was looking to switch providers,” Kerri said 

“Once I was in contact with the office, it was pretty easy. At Just Better Care, I have my A-Team of Support Workers, particularly Angelo, my favourite worker, who is a diligent, kind and caring man.”

Did your previous provider have an app to assist with managing your support?

No, my previous provider didn’t have an app.

What do you use most in the app?

I regularly check the “My Scheduler” section of the app. Here, I can check if my A-Team of Support Workers is coming to my home. A red dot next to the schedule means there has been a change or a notification for my attention. Now I just check the schedule daily, in my own time, without bothering anyone.

How has the app changed the way you communicate with Just Better Care?

Before getting the app, there were a lot of phone calls (almost daily) to check if the office had arranged my support workers for the day, but now I can just check the app. I will still call the office if something is essential, but that’s my preference.

I also think the “Feedback” section is excellent. At the end of every shift, I leave feedback about how my A-Team has gone above and beyond to carry out their duties. Otherwise, I leave suggestions for how Just Better Care could improve for future visits to my home.

How easy is it to find the information your need?

It’s so much easier, particularly the schedule. I can get straight into it, and I have the option to change something. Today, I received a message through the app notifying me that my worker had changed, and I found that helpful.

What's changed since using the app?

I’m more confident. When I have a medical appointment and need to make a follow-up appointment, I can access my schedule right then and there at the reception desk, check if Just Better Care is coming next week, and request changes if needed. 

Would you recommend the app to other Just Better Care customers?

I recommend the My JBC app to other Just Better Care customers. It’s a handy app. Before, I spent much time ringing up, leaving messages, and waiting for a team member to respond. That’s all changed; with the My JBC app, I can do more for myself.
